Description
A simple, budget-friendly recipe for homemade pizza dough that brings the warmth of a pizzeria into your kitchen.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups All-purpose flour (best for the structure of your dough)
- 1 packet or 2 ¼ teaspoons Active dry yeast (essential for leavening the dough)
- 1 cup Warm water (activates the yeast; not too hot)
- 1 teaspoon Sugar (helps to activate the yeast)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (balances flavors)
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil (adds richness and texture)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it’s foamy.
- Combine the flour and salt in another bowl. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 60 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Shape it into your pizza base.
Notes
You can use bread flour for a chewier crust. For gluten-free, swap in a gluten-free all-purpose blend and experiment with herbs for extra flavor.
