Description
Delightful homemade hot dog buns that enhance your summer BBQ with light, fluffy texture.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast in warm milk mixed with sugar in a small bowl. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Mix the melted butter, egg, and salt in a large bowl.
- Pour the frothy yeast mixture into the bowl and stir to combine.
- Add in flour gradually, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise until it doubles in size, about 60 minutes.
- Punch the risen dough down, divide it into 6 equal pieces, and shape each piece into a bun.
- Arrange the buns on a lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the buns rise.
- Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
- Allow the buns to cool before using.
Notes
For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and that milk is warm but not hot.
