Description

Soft and warm homemade flour tortillas perfect for any filling or dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium bowl until well mixed.
  2. Add the vegetable oil, mixing it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Slowly pour in the water, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
  6. Use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a thin circle, about 8 inches in diameter.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add a tortilla and cook for about 30 seconds on each side until lightly browned.
  8. Repeat with the remaining tortillas, adjusting the heat as necessary.
  9. Keep the cooked tortillas warm wrapped in a clean kitchen towel until ready to serve.

Notes

For a lighter texture, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour. Consider adding herbs or spices for extra flavor.
