Description

A delightful dessert that combines rich chocolate flavor with moisture, perfect for gatherings and casual treats.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for icing)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large sheet pan.
  2. In a big mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a saucepan, bring the water and vegetable oil to a rolling boil. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients, stirring well until combined.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until the batter is smooth and well-blended.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared sheet pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the icing. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then stir in the milk and cocoa powder, bringing it to a boil.
  7. Remove from heat and gradually stir in the powdered sugar until the icing is smooth.
  8. Once the cake is out of the oven, pour the warm icing over it. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use fresh eggs and high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. Consider adding chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture.
